It begins to occur to me that the Nyaya approach functions something like this Word HTML Cleaner, i.e. as a tool that strips all normative tags and other included proprietary cruft from the workings of the intellect, but leaves its essential formatting intact. It is a cleansing of the thinking process itself re-enabled to assume its primmediate vim. In the school's own lingo this alludes to niḥśreyasa, concretely 'conception, apperception,' but which avers to the summum bonum, too, as ''complete emancipation, final beatitude, or knowledge that brings it .'

To which Yoga sages would probably reply in the spirit of Scheler's immanent criticism of the purely logical aspirations of Husserlian performative apophasis to the ultimate valorium of the phenomenological Einstellung - it is not by logically putting our unwarranted existential claims in brackets that the self-revealing Soseinheiten (tathatas) are popping up from our ontic memory (bhavana), but by volitionally constraining ourselves and in total opposition to the uncessant (and anadi) attacks of our Reality Pole.

With regard to the yogi's 'wilful self-constraint':

    1. Is it here being drawn as 'an antipodal defence (mechanism or strategy) against the onslaughts of Reality'?

    2. Is it [therefore] by the application of this procedure that "self-revealing Soseinheiten (tathatas) are popping up from our ontic memory (bhavana)"?

Kirilov used to say that. "You love to include things. – You're always including things!"

I should think it might rather be described as a 'deliberating nonobservance'.

In which case, it seems, the answer here would be "yes."

Dostoevsky magnificently illustrates 'inclusion overflow' as an experimental device for probing the ontic boundaries of observance and nonobservance.

    Mary

'Deliberating nonobservance' is probably the antipode of vipassana. What is needed even in the straightforward Husserlian phenomenology is an analytical doing away of all existentially contingent elements of our experience. What cannot be analysed away (Vasubandhu) is the phenomenon in both Husserlian and Buddhist ways. The same in Yoga-darsana. We have first analytical cleansing (vitarka) of our verbal vikalpas, then unsvearwing understanding (vicara) of the subtle facts of our gocara of immanent objects (ontomnemic field of experience). These are all active interventions at the background of oppressive acts against the external senses, smashing the resistence of reality.

    Plamen,

You have me on this one!

    "Extirpative inattention", then...

Why cannot one simply reverse the magnetic field such that the two poles become one, with no 'active repulsion' required?

    Mary

Nonobservance and inattention are more of marginal functional descriptions, because what we substantially have in our case as the only reality of mind is the onepointed consciousness (ekagrata-citta). Nonobservance and inattention are means to prevent the viksipta-samskaras from vyuthana.
