...UpasampradДЃya cannot be glossed as Buddhist monk. What is more, the contemporary community of so-called Buddhist monks hardly has a clue as to what this even means, let alone implies.
...What everyone misguidedly describes as a Buddhist monk ought to truly be known as "a person who has taken upasampradāya." What is more, to refer to this sacred initiatory rite—which is upasampradāya—as mere ordination, or even more expressly Buddhist ordination, reflects in every way the debased moral fibre of that cultic project mechanically referred to as Buddhism.
...upa means 'entering,' or 'drinking from'; sampradДЃya hints at 'ascetic tradition, or wellspring' if you will. UpasampradДЃya is the one and only primordial ascetic source on the planet. We whose veins are suffused with those waters, accept no seconds, neither imitations.

Seems like prolegomena is the right word for upasampradДЃya. _________________ Plamen Gradinarov, Ph.D., D.Litt.
