    Dear scholars,

I want to know more about ekArthibhAva & vyapekshAbhAva. According the vaiyAkarana rules a sentence has vyapekshA sAmarthya & samAsa (compound) has the ekArthibhAva sAmarthya. So I would like to know the western scholar's view about this vAda. Some of the great scholars like Cardona has worked on these forms.

    Dear Pankaj,

This is a very interesting topic I would like to know more about. Could you please outline the logical structure of both kinds of integrity.

    Thank you

According to PДЃ б№…ini's "samartahpadavidhi" sutra sAarthya are of two types
1)EkArthibhAva 2) VyapekshAbhAva. A sentance possess vyapeksha (visista akansha) e.g. 'rAjanh purushah asti' here rAjan can be compounded with any adjective .rAjan is an adjective of purusa but in sentance form it may have another adjective like "mahatah rAja purusha . In this context purusha can't compunded with rAja pada because because it has another adjective. The rule is "savisheshanAnaAm vrittirna vrittasya visheshana yOgO na." It is called vyapeksha and it follows in sentance .
In samasa (compound) vritti there we accept ekArthibhava because of lAghava. It is discussed in Mahabhashya , Bhushanasara etc. if once samasa has done we cant add any other adjective with compouned word. e.g. 'rAjapurusha' here we cant add 'mahatah' as an adjective. The rule is "padarthah padarthena anveti na tu padarthekadeshana".
The above mentioned rule is default. Some words which indicates relation can be compouned in sentance. e.g. "devadattasya gurukulam" . Compounding can be done here.
    Refereance
    Mahabhashya -2.1.1
    Bhushanasara-samasasaktinirnaya
