    Dear Friends,
Chomsky claims a mathematical / computational model for languages. Do we agree ? Are all languages under one umbrella ? We have classes of languages like European languages , Indo European, Dravidian, Aryan , American , Asian, South Asian , African , etc. Their chracter sets or symbols and alphabets are non standard. Computer scienctists propose unicode standards. Do we agree ? Language technology claims that we can use regenerative gramars and translate from any to any language ? is that a myth or reality ? Does metalnguage add to world knowledge ? Lets opine please

    Collegues
Chomskian Grammar is "Universal Grammar". His syntactic theories are not under the scope of General Linguistics. He proposed all the theories for the purpose of Computation . We have to examine how much chomskian model can be implemented in Indian Languages. If one makesa close study we can find some similarity between Chomskian and Paninian model.
Unicode is an international Standard for character encoding. It is the internationally acepted standard. Our site also make use of Unicode Fonts.
The third part of your querry points to a wide subject. or the last 60 years peoples are working to develope Machine translation Systems. They are using various grammars and algorithems. Providing world knowledge is also possible . But there is some limitation .

So far as I understand, Chomsky proposes a universal grammar applicable to all human languages transcending specificities. Language is linked with human creativity and this organic dimension takes Chomskyan philosophy beyond any mechanical model. I have always wondered if Bhartrhari with his holistic approach isnt much more close to Chomsky than Panini whose accent is on computation though Panini also seems to anticipate Panini at the deeper level.

    Sir
Your point is correct but the ultimate aim of Chomskian Syntactical Theory is Computation. But we can think about more clear and concrete thory based on Paninian system.

The language computability model has to cater to syntax as well as semantics. Computer Science has progressed through programming languages and sturctured query languages addressing both syntax as well semantics. Paraphrasing implies the same meaning and SQL (structured query language) gives a correct answer over the language / story database.
